“ More than an association, a state of mind! ”

The little Republic in the big one.

It is with immense sadness and great emotion that we learned this morning of the tragedy that occurred in a school, which cost the life of Mélanie, an educational assistant, the victim of an act of unacceptable violence, perpetrated by a student aged only 14. The Association of Elected Officials of France wishes to express its most sincere condolences to the victim's family, to her colleagues, to the students and to the entire educational community, which has been severely affected by this tragedy. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy. This extremely serious act, committed by a teenager, profoundly questions our society about the loss of reference points, the trivialization of violence and the flaws in our prevention system. We, elected representatives of the Republic, call for a national reflection to strengthen the prevention of violence in schools, support educational teams and rethink, together, the conditions for a peaceful school environment. It is urgent to give those involved in the National Education system the means to fulfill their mission, both in terms of human resources and protection. In this painful moment, the Association of Elected Officials of France reaffirms its determination to act with all institutional partners to ensure that such acts can never again bring mourning to our schools. The school of the Republic must be a refuge, a space for learning and transmission in safety. Keltoum Rochdi

Today, in Paris, a far-right demonstration was held, provoking strong reactions and legitimate questions. Through this platform, I wish to express my indignation at this disturbing trend, which brings back painful memories, to dark hours that our nation has promised never to relive. Accepting this demonstration means turning a blind eye to history, to the sacrifice of the valiant soldiers, both French and African, who fought to liberate our land from the yoke of the Nazis. These heroes, through their bravery, were able to face horror and forged our current democracy. By disavowing them, we betray their memory, but also the values of liberty, equality, and fraternity that are the foundation of our Republic. It is crucial to remember that the far right fuels division, the rejection of others, and contempt for differences. It relies on fears and frustrations to seduce a segment of the population, promising simplistic solutions to complex problems. Such an ideology can, in the long run, only lead to exclusion, violence, and intolerance. It calls into question the achievements of our society, universal values that have been hard-won. It is therefore up to us not to give in to fear, not to let our country fall into extremes, but rather to promote dialogue, understanding, and solidarity. Our history teaches us that unity and resistance in the face of intolerance are the only paths to a just and peaceful future. To all those who share these values, I call on you to stand up, to make your voices heard, and to relentlessly combat extremism in all its forms. Let us not allow the shadows of the past to haunt our present. Together, let us preserve France, a France strong in its diversity and its human riches, a France that honors its history by looking to the future with confidence and determination. As elected officials, knowing our origins and our strength, we will never let our country fall into extremes. Never. Yannick OWONA

10 years later, remembering so as not to forget... Ten years ago, between January 7 and 9, 2015, a series of Islamist attacks claimed responsibility caused the death of 17 people. Ten years ago, more than 4 million people, as well as 44 heads of state and government, marched in the streets of France in the name of Liberty. Freedom of expression, freedom of the press, freedom of caricature and freedom of blasphemy are founding values of the French Republic, even if Jacques Chirac, with great lucidity, stated, moreover, that it must be based on values of tolerance and respect for all beliefs. He added that anything that might offend the beliefs of others, particularly religious beliefs, must be avoided. However, nothing can excuse or minimize the crimes of which our fellow citizens have been victims. The condemnation is unconditional. Barbarism tolerates no circumstances. Racism and anti-Semitism have no place in our country. Every member of the Association of Elected Officials of France, even if the association did not yet exist, remembers what they were doing and where they were during this difficult period. Today, as yesterday and even more so tomorrow, the Association of Elected Officials of France fights for living together well, whatever our beliefs, our social or cultural origins, our religions or lack thereof... The Republic must be lived with consideration and mutual respect. Ten years ago, those three days definitively changed our understanding of individual and collective freedoms. Against obscurantism and for freedom of expression, we don't joke with humor. This oxymoron reveals how complex our society is and the balance to be regained between freedom and security is difficult to achieve. The Association of Elected Officials of France sends its sincere and deep thoughts to the families and loved ones of the victims. Fabrice CASADA For the Association of Elected Officials of France

This Monday marks a day of national mourning decreed by the President of the Republic in tribute to the victims of Cyclone Chido, which struck the Mayotte archipelago with devastating violence. Eight days after this disaster, we, members of the Association of Elected Officials of France, express our deep solidarity with the inhabitants of Mayotte, who have been sorely tried. A moment of national reflection This day is above all a call for unity and solidarity of the Nation. The flags on our public buildings will be flown at half-mast, and at 11 a.m., a minute of silence will be observed in all public services and beyond, by all French people who wish to express their support and compassion. While national mourning is essentially symbolic, it carries a strong emotional charge, reminding us that Mayotte, like every French territory, is an integral part of our Republic. Mayotte, at the heart of our Republic Mayotte is much more than an overseas department: it is a pillar of the diversity and richness of our nation. Today, in the face of this ordeal, we reaffirm the unbreakable ties that unite Mayotte and France. These ties translate into a duty of national solidarity, but also into a shared desire to rebuild and restore hope to a devastated territory. The commitment of elected officials Local and national elected officials are mobilizing to provide concrete solutions to the humanitarian emergency and the challenges of reconstruction. A thought for the victims On this day of remembrance, our thoughts go out to the victims and their families, as well as to all those on the ground who are working tirelessly to rescue, support, and rebuild. Cyclone Chido is a painful reminder of our vulnerability to the forces of nature, but also of our ability to overcome the most difficult challenges together. The Association of Elected Officials of France calls on every citizen to participate in this tribute, through remembrance and solidarity. Together, let us affirm our unwavering support for Mayotte and renew our commitment to building a united, supportive, and resilient France. Lynda Chaventré Association of Elected Officials of France
