It is with immense sadness and great emotion that we learned this morning of the tragedy that occurred in a school, which cost the life of Mélanie, an educational assistant, the victim of an act of unacceptable violence, perpetrated by a student aged only 14. The Association of Elected Officials of France wishes to express its most sincere condolences to the victim's family, to her colleagues, to the students and to the entire educational community, which has been severely affected by this tragedy. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy. This extremely serious act, committed by a teenager, profoundly questions our society about the loss of reference points, the trivialization of violence and the flaws in our prevention system. We, elected representatives of the Republic, call for a national reflection to strengthen the prevention of violence in schools, support educational teams and rethink, together, the conditions for a peaceful school environment. It is urgent to give those involved in the National Education system the means to fulfill their mission, both in terms of human resources and protection. In this painful moment, the Association of Elected Officials of France reaffirms its determination to act with all institutional partners to ensure that such acts can never again bring mourning to our schools.
